View this email in your browser ​Dearest Reader, I am currently (finally) listening to The Body Keeps the Score after trying (unsuccessfully) to read it in print. Every now and then, I think about the tweet that says, "if I were the body I would simply not keep the score," and I laugh. ​ My intro Creative Nonfiction students have turned in their first essays for me today, and I am both eager and afraid to open the documents. Sometimes, teaching CNF and editing CNF feels like watching a giant tidal wave labeled "trauma" come hurtling in my direction. One of the greatest traits an editor can have is curiosity: What are you wanting the reader to take from this moment? How does this scene connect back to the heartbeat of the essay? Where are we in space and time? A round of applause here for all the people in our lives who take the time to listen to our stories and ask us questions. Write your editor/teacher/writing group a thank-you email. Tag them in a nice tweet. What are you noticing?
