A man who was being held at the Bexar County Jail on a murder charge is now accused of killing his cellmate, an ex-white supremacist gang member, according to the Sheriff's Office. Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar referred to the accused man, identified as Shandrick Van Anthony Buckley, as a "very violent individual." Around 1:28 p.m. Thursday, Salazar said a detention deputy noticed blood flowing under the door of a cell. The deputy looked inside the cell and found Buckley inside with the victim on his bed, appearing to be asleep. When the deputy entered the cell, they found the victim unresponsive on the floor with several facial and head injuries, Salazar said. BREAKING BCSO confirms death of inmate inside jail #KSATnews https://t.co/Cb8QJ28ARF — Dillon Collier (@dilloncollier) May 30, 2019 After taking Buckley into custody, Salazar said deputies began performing lifesaving measures on the victim but they were unsuccessful. Salazar said Buckley had been involved in another incident when he assaulted a deputy, a 22-year veteran of the Bexar County Sheriff's Office, without warning Tuesday afternoon. While the 31-year-old victim has not yet been identified, Salazar said he was facing charges of theft, possession of a controlled substance, fraudulent use of identification and credit card abuse. Salazar said the victim is also a former member of the Aryan Brotherhood. Despite Buckley being an African American man and the victim having a history of being in a white supremacist gang, Salazar said they did not consider them to be incapable of being housed in a cell together. Buckley and the man were housed together in part because both have been involved in recent violent incidents at the jail, Salazar said. RELATED: Man arrested for fatal stabbing outside Haven for Hope According to KSAT.com records, Buckley was arrested in September 2017 on suspicion of killing another man by repeatedly stomping on the man's head. Online records show Buckley is still awaiting trial in the murder case. Salazar said at the very least, Buckley is facing a new murder charge but it could be upgraded to capital murder. He also faces a charge of assault on a public servant causing bodily injury for Tuesday's incident.
