Announcements Director's Message from Helene M. Langevin, M.D. August 19, 2024 Our most recent Integrative Medicine Research Lecture Series (IMLS) presentation highlights the multitude of scientific opportunities that come with leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to advance our understanding of human health and transform approaches to care. During the lecture, âHarnessing AI To Explore Health Restoration in Diabetes,â Aaron Y. Lee, M.D., M.S.C.I., of the University of Washington provided a compelling vision of how AI/ML can power intriguing exploration of human health along a bidirectional continuum: moving away from or toward health.  | Martina Schmidt, Ph.D. August 19, 2024 We welcome you to join us for the upcoming open session of the National Advisory Council for Complementary and Integrative Health (NACCIH) meeting on Friday, September 13, 2024. The open session will be livestreamed on NIH VideoCast from 10:40 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET, and the recorded video will be posted several days later. Registration to watch the livestream is not necessary, and all are invited to attend online. There is also limited space available to attend the meeting in person on the National Institutes of Health (NIH) campus in Bethesda, Maryland.  | Wendy J. Weber, N.D., Ph.D., M.P.H. August 16, 2024 Iâm excited to announce a new resource for the complementary and integrative health research communityâa video library where members of the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) program and review staff provide guidance on the grants process, funding opportunities, peer review, and more. | Chelation therapy does not reduce the occurrence of major adverse cardiovascular events in patients with diabetes who have had a myocardial infarction even though it effectively reduces blood lead levels, according to a multicenter clinical trial funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The results, which did not replicate those of an earlier trial, were published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.  | A new study of adults in the United States with chronic severe back pain showed that nearly 21 percent did not receive treatment for at least 3 months and that socioeconomic factors played a role. The cross-sectional study, which was recently published in The Journal of Pain, was conducted by researchers from the Université de Montréal and the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health.  |

Supporting the trials, the PMC has established a coordinating center that provides national leadership and technical expertise for all aspects of health care system (HCS)-focused research including assistance to UG3/UH3 grant recipients. The receipt date is November 7, 2024.  Upcoming Events September 12, 2024, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. ET; Virtual Please join us for a pre-application technical assistance webinar to discuss the NIH HEAL Initiative: Coordinated Approaches to Pain Care in Health Care Systems (UG3/UH3 - Clinical Trial Optional) notice of funding opportunity (NOFO; RFA-NS-24-041). The purpose of this webinar is to provide potential grant applicants with an overview of the funding opportunity and address questions from the scientific community. The webinar will feature highlights of application considerations from program staff at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke and the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) and a presentation on review requirements from NCCIHâs Office of Scientific Review. Registration is required.Â
