Greetings, New Orleans foodies! This week, Ian McNulty finds out what's new at St. Roch Market. We take a trip to Cajun country for some home cooking — from a drive-thru window. Latkes are showing up on New Orleans menus, with intriguing variations. Side-by-side bars on Oak Street get new owners, and in Mid-City, a cafe opens where Ruby Slipper was born. Finally, Liz Williams shares her recipe for Sicilian limoncello to give as a gift, or enjoy for yourself this holiday season. 1. Special of the day? As a girl growing up in Honduras and later in Chalmette, Aritza Garcia watched her relatives cook and longed to take part. Now she’s doing the cooking at her own first venture in the food business at St. Roch Market. 2. Cooked slow, served fast. Glenda Broussard has run Glenda's Creole Kitchen outside her hometown of Breaux Bridge for nearly 25 years. Ian McNulty pulled up to her drive-thru window for this story. 3. Wait! There's more. Hanukkah starts Thursday, and that means latkes — from traditional to creative. Wine and beer bars on Oak Street get new owners who've perfected the side-by-side strategy in Mid-City. And the onetime home of Ruby Slipper is a retro-style cafe called Rosella, with a surprise: a corn dog for grownups. 4. Zest for life. Homemade limoncello is a welcome holiday gift. Here's Liz Williams' Sicilian family recipe. In New Orleans, the food news never stops. Keep up with all the inside info at Where NOLA Eats. P.S.: Want to support local journalism that matters?
