New COVID Measures Come Into Force Today  

The new Hospitality restrictions announced by the Scottish Government, backed by a new £40 million support fund for business and the existing UK Job Retention Scheme, will be in place nationwide for 16 days, with tighter restrictions across central belt areas where the infection rate is highest.

Restrictions on licensed premises will come into force from 18:00 on Friday 9 October, with all other restrictions applying from 00:01 Saturday 10 October.

The new measures are:
Nationwide (excepting central belt areas):

  • Hospitality (food and drink): all premises may only open indoors between 6am and 6pm, with no sales of alcohol
  • Hospitality (food and drink): premises may open outdoors until 10pm, with sales of alcohol (where licensed)
  • Takeaways (including from pubs and restaurants) can continue
  • Evening meals may be served in accommodation for residents only but no alcohol can be served
  • Current meeting rules, maximum of six people from two households, continue to apply
  • Specific life events, such as weddings and funerals, may continue with alcohol being served, with current meeting rules for these events (20 person limit in regulated premises only)

Scottish Government Release Evidence Paper to Support Latest COVID-19 Measures

The new COVID-19 measures will come into force today which will see restrictions on opening hours and selling alcohol across Scotland for the hospitality industry.

The Scottish Government has released the paper from their senior clinical advisers summing up evidence on infection trends, confirmed cases, hospital use and deaths, and how these vary across Scotland.

Graham’s The Family Dairy which has facilities in Cowdenbeath’s Glenfield Industrial Estate is celebrating as new figures placed it as the number one Scottish food brand in Scotland, overtaking Irn Bru for the first time. It also jumps up one place to number nine in the top 20 most chosen food brands in Scotland, overtaking global brands such as Nescafe, Pepsi and Kingsmill.
 
The ranking is based on Scottish household shopping choices and reveals which brands are being bought by the most consumers the most often.

Training Support for People Facing Redundancy and Unemployment

People who have lost their jobs or who are at risk of redundancy as a result of coronavirus (COVID-19) can access support to retrain through a new fund launched by Economy Secretary Fiona Hyslop.

The £25 million National Transition Training Fund – a flagship Programme for Government commitment – will help up to 10,000 people aged 25 and over to develop the skills required to move into sectors with the greatest potential for future growth and job opportunities.
