New Division Heads

Stewart Goldman, MD, was recently appointed Division Head of Hematology, Oncology and Stem Cell Transplant. Dr. Goldman is the Medical Director of Neuro-oncology, the Gus Foundation Chair of Neuro-oncology, and Professor of Pediatrics at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.
Aaron Hamvas, MD, was named Division Head of Neonatology at Lurie Children's and Professor of Pediatrics at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. He comes from the Washington University School of Medicine and St. Louis Children's Hospital. Dr. Hamvas will be collaborating with researchers at the Stanley Manne Children's Research Institute and Feinberg School of Medicine to research persistent pulmonary hypertension.
Earl Cheng, MD, was appointed Division Head of Urology at Lurie Children's in March. Dr. Cheng is a national expert in complex reconstructive urology and co-directs a basic science laboratory with Arun Sharma, PhD, that focuses on tissue engineering techniques for the urinary tract. He is also the Co-Director of the Gender and Sex Development Program at Lurie Children's, the first program of its kind in the Midwest.
Robert Garofalo, MD, MPH, was appointed Division Head of Adolescent Medicine. Dr. Garofalo is Co-Director of the Gender and Sex Development Program at Lurie Children's and Professor of Pediatrics at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. He is a national expert on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) health issues as well as adolescent sexuality and HIV infection.

U.S.News & World Report Ranking

Lurie Children’s ranks 8th in the U.S.News & World Report Best Children’s Hospitals Honor Roll for 2014-2015. The national Honor Roll recognizes children’s hospitals with high scores in at least three specialties. This year, Lurie Children’s has five specialties in the top 10, including Gastroenterology (2nd), Neurology/Neurosurgery (4th), Urology (5th), Cancer (6th), and Nephrology (9th). Same Day Surgery Program

Lurie Children’s is offering parents whose children have chronic ear infections and need ear tubes the benefit of getting surgery on the same day that they receive a specialist’s evaluation at the hospital. The pilot program, managed by the Division of Otolaryngology and Pediatric Anesthesiology, soon will be extended to tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy and other minor procedures. Same Day Surgery is offered at the main hospital in Chicago and Lurie Children’s Outpatient Center in Westchester. This outpatient center also offers several other outpatient surgical procedures, making excellent care even more accessible.

Wellness & Weight Management Program

Our Wellness & Weight Management Program offers comprehensive care for families of children and teenagers who are overweight or obese and want to make healthy lifestyle changes. The program also offers bariatric surgery for select patients at Lurie Children's at Cadence Health.

Expanded Services in Grayslake

Lurie Children’s Outpatient Center in Grayslake now offers expanded pediatric services including cardiology, epilepsy, GI, neurology, urology and speech, occupational and physical therapy. Learn more about services offered in Grayslake.

New Affiliation with Adventist Hinsdale Hospital

Lurie Children’s has a new affiliation with Adventist Hinsdale Hospital. Pediatric hospitalists are on-site around the clock and available for your patients in their pediatric unit and emergency room, making sure children receive high-quality care. 

Lurie Children’s Honored for Excellence in Interactive Patient Care

Lurie Children’s recently received the Interactive Patient Care Award from the GetWellNetwork. The hospital was recognized for exemplifying clinical practice transformation through an interdisciplinary approach to engage patients and families.
Lurie Children's is a recipient of the Illinois Hospital Association Quality Excellence Achievement Award.
