This is a print of the recently restored fresco painting of the Madonna of the Column, also known as Mater Ecclesiae (Mother of the Church). It was originally painted in the early 15th century by an anonymous, talented artist. After the attempt on his life, May 13, 1981, Pope St. John Paul II wished to place a mosaic of the Virgin Mary in place of a window of the Apostolic Palace. That mosaic was inspired by the ancient and venerated painting of the Madonna of the Column, as a pledge of Our Lady's motherly protection of the pope and the whole Church. Framed in an ornate gold wood frame under glass; measures 13½" x 11½". $44.00 |
