The exhibition is presenting the latest winners of the renowned prize for graduates in photography. For the 16th edition of GUTE AUSSICHTEN, the jury selected nine award winners from among 82 submissions from 36 universities: "War and peace in times of global disinformation" is the common thread that runs through the exhibition for 2019 and 2020 and links the works by the award winners. "Fake news and fake identities are already a truism. The business of information is in itself nothing new. Global digital technology ensures viral distribution within seconds. News cannot be classified as true or untrue as quickly as it whizzes around the globe," says Josefine Raab, founder of the project. As the first purely digitally socialized generation, this year’s award winners process current issues such as identity, war, and natural disasters. The medium of photography is also reflected in the artistic positions: the power of (key) images, the structures of their distribution, and the visual recording of user data are among the young photographers’ themes. Three of the current award winners studied at universities in northern Germany: Two award winners—Ricarda Fallenbacher (Ein Bild von uns – Objektiv betrachtet) and Johannes Kuczera (Distributor)—graduated from the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences. Lisa Hoffmann (Atlas of the Essence) studied at the Muthesius University of Fine Arts and Design in Kiel. |
