Welcome back, New Orleans food fans! This week, Ian McNulty reveals the ambitious new restaurant poised to open on Metairie Road. Augie's Restaurant vows to make amends to patrons left in the lurch when it abruptly shut down. Matt Haines has a roundup of 10 destinations for bottomless brunch. Starbucks closed its Canal Street location and left, citing crime, but now French Truck is stepping into the space. Restaurant Week returns with deals to lure locals during the slow summer. Taste wine like a pro at Commander's Palace. Finally, get the authentic flavor of South Louisiana with Brett J. Broussard's redfish courtbouillon and honey-sweetened bread, recipes he learned from his grandmother. 1. The great outdoors. Garrison Kitchen & Cocktails is slated to open at a former garden center on Metairie Road in July, with a menu of upscale casual modern American cuisine. And this sounds intriguing: Its grounds include a collection of gazebos sheltering individual tables. 2. Be patient? Augie Lopez is vowing to make customers whole after the sudden shuttering of his Harahan dining and event space, Augie's Restaurant. “They are all going to be taken care of,” Lopez said. “They have to be patient but I’m working on everything.” 3. Wait! There's more. Free-flowing drinks star at these 10 destinations for bottomless brunch, but don't sleep on the delicious breakfast specials. The local coffee brand French Truck takes over the site on Canal Street shuttered by Starbucks. And Commander's Palace offers a self-guided wine tasting tour, launching during the return of Restaurant Week. 4. Cajun kitchen! When his grandma Ruby Reaux Hebert was in her mid-80s, Brett J. Broussard would visit every Tuesday with a pen, paper and tape recorder. “I thought I was going to get recipes, but I also got all these memories and stories,” he said. Now, Brett shares Ruby's recipes for courtbouillon and honey-sweetened bread. That's it for the food newsletter, but in New Orleans, the food news never stops.
