Late last week, the news emerged of exactly when Apple would unveil its 2018 range of iPhones, iPads, Apple Watches, expected new Macs and other surprises, which included leaks of two new iPhones and the Series 4 Apple Watch.

A group of attackers known as WindShift, suspected to be backed by a nation-state, has been using vulnerabilities in Apple's macOS operating system to target specific individuals in government and critical infrastructure across the Persian Gulf.

The governments of the Five Eyes countries — the US, the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand — have warned tech companies that they must voluntarily enable access to products sold in these five countries, else they will be forced to do so in cases deemed necessary.

The Australian Labor Party has described the national broadband network as being on "life support" with the announcement on Friday that the total outlay would be $51 billion, compared to the earlier figure of $49 billion, described as "a cost blowout" that was "nothing short of a disaster".

Global smartphone shipments will decline this year, but market intelligence firm IDC believes there will be low single-digit growth from 2019 through to 2022, according to the company's latest forecast released last week.
