Announcements Director's Message from Helene M. Langevin, M.D. May 6, 2022 Whole person health is inherently complex. It involves a wide variety of multisystem interactions, including many that involve the microbiomethe community of microorganisms that lives on and within our bodies. This microbial community has many effects on human biology, and growing evidence shows that disruptions to the community influence many disease processes. |
Inna Belfer, M.D., Ph.D. May 13, 2022 Pain is a complex experience that involves both the body and the brain and often coexists with other health or medical conditions. A whole person health approach to pain management represents a new paradigm in thinking and developing effective treatment strategies. It is central to our understanding of the multiple interconnected factors that influence both pain and its management. | May 6, 2022 NCCIH Research Blog Team The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) invites you to two upcoming virtual lectures on the science of emotional well-being (EWB). Registration is not required, the public is welcome, and you can attend either or both talks. These events are part of NCCIHsIntegrative Medicine Research Lecture Series. A new analysis suggests that physicians use a combination of personal experience and scientific evidence when deciding whether to recommend complementary health approaches. The findings also suggest that physicians who recommend these approaches may have some degree of trust in the opinions of both their peers and patients regarding these approaches. Recently published inJournal of Integrative and Complementary Medicine, the analysis was led by researchers at the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) and National Center for Health Statistics and partly funded by NCCIH. | Resources for Researchers Dissemination and Implementation Research in Health (R01 Clinical Trial Optional) Dissemination and Implementation Research in Health (R21 Clinical Trial Optional) Notice of Change to Foreign Component Eligibility in PAR-20-217, PAR-20-218, and PAR-21-240 Emergency Awards: HEAL Initiative: Coordinating Center for National Pain Scientists Career Development (R24 Clinical Trial Not Allowed) Highlighted Funding Opportunities NIH Request for Information (RFI) on Integrating Environmental Data into theAll of UsResearch All of Us has announced a Request for Information (RFI) on integrating environmental data into the All of Us Research Program, which will be critically important for making discoveries on how the environment influences health and disease. Responses on specific categories of environmental exposure, as well as valid and reliable measures, are sought for consideration in shaping how the environmental data, particularly when paired with other data types, can be most beneficial to researchers. The RFI responses will be accepted through May 31, 2022. Upcoming Events TODAY! May 18, 2022, 1:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. ET; Virtual Speaker:Michelle Y. But we also know that the cancer journey can be stressful from diagnosis onward and well into survivorship.A major area of stress is finances, such as stress from increased medical costs and possibly reduced income and work productivity. The impact of financial toxicity on patient well-being is an emerging area of research. | May 23, 2022to May 26, 2022; Phoenix, Arizona (Sheraton Grand at Wild Horse Pass) TheInternational Congress on Integrative Medicine and Health (ICIMH) is convened by the Academic Consortium for Integrative Medicine and Health.
