It was great so see my friend “Dr Dave” Gregory (yellow T shirt on left) doing his stuff in the Cathedral this afternoon as we helped launch the new book he’s just edited, “Messy Church Does Science” (available at the Cathedral Bookshop or from BRF here). I got to make the first Bee Hotel, make flames turn different colours using some cool chemicals, create a compass, fold a paper plane and more – all with appropriate teaching points of course.
“Messy” has great reach into our rural areas, but does perhaps sometimes struggle to become “church”. These very thoughtful experiment-based sessions (100 in the book) will be great for evoking awe, stimulating discussion and leading into prayer and worship – church!
