A quiet little church set picturesquely in the village of Sawley, near Fountains Abbey. (The village's name means "willow wood" and it was a source of stone and presumably wood for the abbey.) The basic structure is 14th century but the interior was verily "modernised" - which of course now means that it feels rather out-of-date. The Sawley Arms nearby was, I discover, the venue for the last reunion of Trueman, Close, Illingworth and Boycott in 2005 before Fred died. It's a happy thought that I downed a pint of Thekaston's in such company. David Thomson | June 24, 2019 at 7:44 am | Categories: Uncategorized | URL: https://wp.me/poSLL-3JR |
