Coco the Guide Dog (Credit: George Reynolds Ely Cathedral) The Diocese of Ely and Ely Cathedral are launching a global social media campaign to mark the start of one of Christianity's most important seasons. Entitled #aChristmasMiracle, the campaign launches on Advent Sunday (Sunday 3 December) and follows in the footsteps of last Easter’s #LiveHolyWeek campaign, which reached over 1 million people in just one week. The Cathedral and Diocese will be releasing specially produced videos of their Choirs performing Christmas carols along with three films featuring the Cambridge based group, The Gesualdo Six. These music videos will be interspersed with fascinating interviews with key people associated with the Cathedral and Diocese, including Stephen Conway, Bishop of Ely. The campaign has at its heart a central film which tells the story of the original Christmas miracle, the Nativity of Christ. This film features clergy and laity from across the Diocese and beyond, including former Archbishop of Canterbury and Master of Magdalene College, The Rt Revd Dr Rowan Williams, BBC personality and Member of the Church of England’s General Synod, The Revd Sally Hitchiner and last but not least, a beautiful Guide Dog called Coco. All the clips and articles are free to view and our hope is that they have a global appeal and reach. They will be shared widely on both Cathedral and Diocesan social media channels as well as via the Church of England, Classic FM and the BBC. The videos can also be accessed directly via the Cathedral’s YouTube channel at youtube.com/elycathedralcambridge This campaign is part of a co-ordinated strategy, running alongside the Church of England’s campaign #GodWithUs. It not only seeks to tell people about the good news and hope that Christmas brings, but also to invite people to be part of the Christmas story themselves by visiting a church or attending a service in a church near them over the festive period. Details of services taking place across the Diocese of Ely can be found at www.achurchnearyou.com This campaign launches at a time when the Church of England has reported that Christmas attendance at services in cathedrals last year reached its highest figure since records began - a rise of 5% over one year. It is hoped that this campaign will serve to support churches throughout the Diocese of Ely and encourage people to visit their local church and cathedral during Advent and Christmas.
