New Skate School | Backpack Crafting | Advisory Board Meeting

This month we announced the construction of our brand new Skate School in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, which will open in early 2018. In partnership with The Skateroom, designed with Building Trust International and located at Factory Phnom Penh, it will be a new welcoming space in the city which will better serve the needs of local children and youth.

Johannesburg and Phnom Penh Update: Make Your Own Backpack!

October was a creativity-filled month for Skate Schools in Johannesburg and Phnom Penh. In the latest series of Skate and Create classes, students in both locations have been learning how to sew and work with fabric as part of the Life Skills curriculum. The result: their own awesome backpack!

Global Update: Skateistan Annual International Advisory Board Meeting

Skateistan held its annual International Advisory Board meeting at the beginning of October, with longtime Skateistan supporter, the Tony Hawk Foundation, kindly offering up their offices to host the event. The meeting was a great chance to gain critical feedback and advice on Skateistan's activities and future plans from a diverse and experienced group of individuals, from both the non-profit and skateboarding worlds. Citizen Profile: Aziza*, Back-to-School (Kabul)

In this month's Citizen Profile we featured Aziza*, a second-grade Back-to-School student in Kabul who, through the program, has learned how to read and write. Not an easy achievement in a country where approximately a third of female adolescents are illiterate.

Exclusive Shop to Donate: Limited Edition Andy Warhol 'Flowers' Editions

Our long-term partner, The Skateroom, has created a limited edition series of Andy Warhol 'Flowers' skateboards in collaboration with the Andy Warhol Foundation. Limited to 500 editions, $180 of each edition sold will be donated to support the construction of our new Skate School in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
