| | Fourteen new inductees to Cockburn Sports Hall of Fame Fremantle Dockers legends, Paralympic medalists, and professional soccer champions are amongst the new members of the City’s prestigious Sports Hall of Fame. The 14 champion athletes and administrators across six different sports were officially inducted on Friday 19 April. The new inductees join 22 others – including AFL stalwarts Glen Jakovic and Peter Sumich, and champion lawn bowlers Smiljana Jakovich and Steve Srhoy – bringing the Hall of Fame’s total membership to 36. Santich Park is getting a $1.76m upgrade! We are upgrading Santich Park in Lake Coogee to meet the growing needs of the local sporting clubs, including Little Athletics and AFL, along with the broader community. Stage 1 of the project is due to start mid-year and should be completed by the end of 2024. It will include: - More sports lighting to extend playing hours and enhance safety
- Realignment of the perimeter railing for safer parking
- 39 new car parking bays to improve congestion and accessibility
- Relocation of discus throw circles for better use of space.
Stage 2 of the project will include building upgrades with timelines yet to be determined. The City is contributing $1.66m to the project, with an additional $99,790 from the State Government’s Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund (CSRFF). The State Government, through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, is a major supporter of community sport and recreation facilities in Western Australia. Sport and recreation builds stronger, healthier, happier and safer communities. When we play sport our whole community wins. |

We aim to strengthen connections between First Nations people and all other Australians through education and coming together. Nominations for the Cockburn WA Day Awards are open Last year's award winner, Leslie Ward, was nominated for her compassion and for delivering homemade meals to people in her community. Leslie makes her own bread, yoghurt and pies, and always helps those who need it. We want to hear about people who make Cockburn the best place to be like Leslie, and those who contribute to our community's development physically, culturally, or socially. The award winner receives $400 and a commemorative certificate, and you could receive $100 for nominating the winner! Winners are announced at the City's annual Pioneers Luncheon on Friday 7 June at the Spearwood Dalmatinac Sport and Community Club. | | |

National Simultaneous Storytime National Simultaneous Storytime — now in its 24th successful year — is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association. A picture book written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country. Join us at 10.30am at Coolbellup Library on Wednesday 22 May as we participate in this colourful and vibrant event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy in our community.
