New York • June 10, 2025

“Pilgrimage to Pride,” a “queer medieval fever dream” of a celebration, recently remade the Cathedral of St. John the Divine into a rainbow of feathers and tassels and gossip about drama between reliquaries. ‘Tis the season of pilgrimages — the forecasts promise better weather, and I for one intend to visit places familiar and far-flung. Our reviews this week take us, for instance, to the galleries of Chelsea and the Upper East Side — familiar spots that also remake themselves each season — but also to Amant in Williamsburg and even Upstate to Dia Beacon. Make a day of it, why don’t you — Taliesin Thomas is back with a guide of 15 shows to see this summer.

Meanwhile, our Pride series takes Staff Reporter Isa Farfan to the Alice Austen House in Staten Island — another lesser-trod art destination worth your visit, particularly in warm weather. And if you don’t have plans tonight, enter the fantasy of a carless city with a pedestrian-only block party stretching down Museum Mile, with the museums open late for the occasion. Or head to Grand Army Plaza, where the Arch also got a facelift, or to the Queens Botanical Garden for a queer movie night, or a hundred other places. New York during the summer is a different — and dare I say, better — beast.
