Former President Trump’s lawyers attack Democrats in filing ahead of impeachment trial, call case ‘political theater’

Trump’s lawyers, in a brief obtained by the Associated Press, called the trial a “selfish attempt” by Democrats “to prey upon the feelings of horror and confusion that fell upon all Americans” after the Capitol riots Jan. 6. Trump is charged with inciting the mob that led the deadly riot at the Capitol.
