Hurricane Dorian, now a Category 3 storm, starts a slow turn toward the US as it pummels the Bahamas

The storm, now a Category 3 hurricane, is located about 35 miles northeast of Freeport on Grand Bahama Island, the National Hurricane Center said at 8 a.m. ET. The center of the storm, which had completely stalled, is now crawling along at about 1 mph. At least five people have died and thousands of homes destroyed in what Bahamas Prime Minister Hubert Minnis called "a historic tragedy."
