Established in 1963, Older Americans Month (OAM) is celebrated every May. Led by the Administration for Community Living (ACL), OAM is a time for us to acknowledge the contributions and achievements of older Americans, highlight important trends, and strengthen our commitment to honoring our older citizens.

This year’s theme, Aging Unbound, offers an opportunity to explore a wide range of aging experiences and to promote the importance of enjoying independence and fulfillment by paving our own paths as we age.

Looking to save on Medicare Costs?

There are programs that may be able to help if you’re struggling to afford the costs of your Medicare health care and prescription medications. Call Eastern Area Agency on Aging to find out if you qualify.

Dear Marci,

My doctor is recommending I get surgery. I do trust them but I want to get another opinion before agreeing to something so big. Will Medicare cover a second opinion, even if another doctor recommends the same thing?

-Rana (El Paso, TX)

Read Marci's answer!

It's important to remember, no matter how convincing the person on the other line sounds, Medicare, the IRS, and any other Federal Agency will not call you directly asking for this information. Hang up immediately and do not provide or confirm any personal information. If you believe you have been a victim of a scam, call EAAA for resources to file a report.

Veteran Directed Care

EAAA works with the VA to provide the Veteran Directed Care program to veterans within our catchment area. We are proud to work directly with the VA and veterans to assist people as they age within their own home. We want to honor those who gave their lives for our country and thank the veterans who have served.
