News from Skateistan

Dear fans of Skateistan,

It was a busy month and we're so excited to share some news. We raised over $109,000 in our latest fundraising campaign, called It's Her Turn. The construction on our fifth Skate School, in Bamyan (Afghanistan), is well underway - some walls are going up and there is a second floor in place! At this time next year, we hope to have students in those classrooms and in the first indoor concrete skatepark in Afghanistan.

Lastly, we are so excited to tell you that our students are back at Skateistan in Phnom Penh and Mazar-e-Sharif! Read on to find out more.

Skate Schools start to reopen!

At the end of July, we re-opened our doors to students and staff returning to programs at our Skate School in Phnom Penh. It was incredible to be able to see our students again and they are stoked to be able to see their friends and mentors in person.

Last week we were also able to open our Skate School in Mazar-e-Sharif to small groups of students. Both staff and students have missed being at the Skate School so much and it feels amazing to be back!

To ensure the safety of our students and staff returning to programs, we are following guidelines set out by authorities, such as hygiene and distancing measures and continuing education on covid-19.

Measuring Impact at Skateistan: Social Return on Investment

At Skateistan we talk about ‘impact’ a lot. Impact is multi-dimensional and there are lots of ways to understand, analyse and communicate it. Essentially we want to know what sort of difference and how much of a difference we are making. We recently undertook a research project to find new ways of measuring our social impact and how that relates to the donations you make.

New partnership with Global Girl Project

We're very excited to announce that we'll soon be working with Global Girl Project; a special partnership that will empower older girls at our Skate Schools in Afghanistan and South Africa. The partnership will form part of our Youth Leadership program and launches in September.
