| | On Tuesday night, people across the political spectrum held their breath, waiting for the results of the US midterm elections. While the outcome can be seen as a victory for both major parties in its own way, lots of eyes were firmly fixed on the likes of Facebook and Twitter to see if it had learnt its lesson from the data mining disaster that engulfed them in the aftermath of 2016’s Presidential election. The on-going scandal from 2016 is still causing problems for the two social media companies. On Monday, Facebook suspended 30 accounts and 85 Instagram accounts while Twitter deleted over 10,000 users that were posting automated messages trying to discourage people from voting.
