Perform Europe's Impact - 13 June 2022
That's a wrap on Perform Europe!
After 18 months of research, testing and touring, this round of Perform Europe is coming to a close. What a journey it has been!
June was one of the busiest months of the project, with over sixty presentations by the Perform Europe partnerships happening across Europe. On 13 June, Perform Europe's Impact Event was held live in Brussels and online, where European stakeholders, representatives of the nineteen partnerships and the Perform Europe Consortium, Jury, Advisory Group and performing arts professionals gathered to hear about the learnings and achievements of Perform Europe and the essence of the policy recommendations to be sent to the European Commission.
Take a look at our Flickr album containing photos from the event by photographer Mathilde Laurent. Please feel free to share the pictures and remember to credit the photographer accordingly.
Between December 2020 and June 2021, Perform Europe explored and mapped the context in which performing art works have been presented across borders in the past few years. The research team identified and analysed the current issues and disparities in the European system of performing arts touring and presentation, and indicated some solutions for bringing change.

This policy report is about how the European Semester can be used for improving working conditions in the cultural and creativesectors. The author has undertaken a brief analysis of how the European Semester can be a tool to stimulate and advance Member States' policies and reforms aimed to improve social and economicstatus of artists and culturalprofessionals. The objective of the research was to reveal whether the European Semester can serve as a mechanism to further such reforms, highlight possible ways how this can be done and point out the main policyplayers and levels at which such changes can be triggered and implemented.
Amidst the crisis, simply “more money” for the arts is no longer enough. Our publication Supporting Relevance unpacks the notions of inclusive, fair and flexible funding, describes the tensions that may occur when designing such funding programmes and schemes, and brings inspiration from a few case studies. It also offers a set of recommendations for funders on how to support the arts in the most relevant way.
When it comes to #MeToo in the cultural sector, IETM and our SHIFT project partners believe it is high time to shift the focus from unique cases to macro-structures, from individual experiences to collective ones. Through research and case studies, the final publication of our joint SHIFT work on Gender & Power Relations puts forward solution-oriented strategies for combating sexual harassment and power abuse in the arts, and for creating equitable and safe professional environments for art workers.
