| | | | | | Dear readers, A year full of ups and downs is now drawing to a close. After a long, corona-related closure, the DDR Museum finally opened its doors again at the end of June. We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your loyalty, because despite the many changes, regulations and uncertainties, we have welcomed many interested visitors to our exhibitions, which now also include the DDR motorbike exhibition, since the reopening. Planning for 2022 is already in full swing. Of course, we will keep you up to date on our upcoming projects here. For all those who are still looking for a special Christmas present: The latest annual calendar »GDR in Objects« with twelve flashy designed object motifs from our collection has recently become available in the museum shop or online. We wish you a wonderful Christmas season and a good start into the new year. The team of the DDR Museum | | | | |

| | | As part of the current special exhibition »Palace of the Republic«, the DDR Museum presents two unique models from the 1990s that depict architectural visions of the DDR building until 18 April 2022. The models, which can be seen in the permanent exhibition, were designed by Heinz Graffunder, chief architect of the Palace, in collaboration with the architects Lothar Arzt and Lothar Gericke, and show parts of the Palace of the Republic extended by structural elements of the historic City Castle. The DDR Museum would like to thank Karolin Huber, Heinz Graffunder's daughter, for these special loans. | | | | |

| | | | | Our Christmas gift tip: »GDR in Objects« Calendar 2022 | |
| | | The latest annual calendar »GDR in Objects« of the DDR Museum is now available here online or in the shop on site. The 12 motifs, including the »Senftenberger Sitzei« furniture, a »Stern« radio or the iconic »Schwalbe« scooter, plus object descriptions are not only eye-catchers on any wall, but also remind us of special DDR design classics. With over 300,000 objects, the DDR Museum owns the world's largest DDR museum collection. The book series »GDR in Objects 1949-1990« provides a comprehensive insight into the collections and classifies thousands of objects in terms of time and content. Additional texts written by the museum's experts explain both individual, special objects and general structures of the bygone state. The first volume on daily life, home and consumption and the second on leisure, culture and travel have already been published and are available online here or in the museum shop in Berlin. | |
