Class Organisation 2024 We are about to start considering classes for 2024. Organising classes for learning is a huge and complex task, as we consider a variety of information such as student friendships and clashes, student learning styles and teacher's teaching styles. We also endeavour to keep students with the same teacher, if we can for a second year, as this is a big indicator in the research for success for our learners. However this kind of decision is also made on an individual basis as well. If you wish to share any issues or considerations about your child's learning and friendships that you feel may impact on their class placement for 2024, now is the time to let us know - email our team leaders and have a chat with your child's teacher too. For children in Pod 2 and 4, please email jasonc@wanaka.school.nz. Pods 1 and 6 email jenniec@wanaka.school.nz and for Pods 7 and 8 email kerryg@wanaka.school.nz. If you have a request for more than one child, please send just one email and cc in the other team leaders as well. Please send your email in the next 2 weeks before we start the class organisation process. We put a lot of heart, soul, time and deep thinking into this process and always strive to make the best choice, based on our own observations and evidence, for each child for the upcoming new year. Education Review Office (ERO) Our ERO review officer, Murray South is in school for a couple of days this week undertaking classroom observations, meeting with the leadership team to see where we are at in the current review process and to look at the revised ERO report templates and expectations now that we have been in the new process and ERO is ready to report on our goals we set for review. I will keep you informed of this process. POLYFEST in Queenstown Fifty Year 5 and 6s in our senior Kapa Haka are heading off to Queenstown with Anne, Kerry and I on the bus to take part in the Polyfest which is held at the Queenstown Events Centre. We perform at around 10.30am and we are looking forward to sharing the hard work Anne, Mary Anne and our students have put in over the year to ensure a quality performance. A reminder for Kapa Haka students to be at school BY 7.45am as the bus leaving for Polyfest will be leaving the school gate sharp at 8am. We are currently looking at designing and purchasing new Kapa Haka uniforms next year as our current outfits were designed and sewn by staff and parents over 15 years ago - time for something new, although we will keep parts of our original motif but incorporate aspects of our school logo as well. Can you Sew? WE NEED SEWERS FOR OUR PANTOMIME COSTUMES Please let Jennie or Wendy know if you have a machine and can undertake some sewing for us - nothing too complicated we promise. Also if you have any props or costumes that we could use in our panto which is a take off of STAR WARS we would love to know. Anything that is along the lines of space or aliens is of interest. We will be asking for specific items as we get closer to performance dates. Pod 1 Assembly is this Friday 20th October Everyone is welcome along to see the work the children have been working on in the last term or so. This is our last assembly for a while as Pod 2's final assembly is not being held until Friday 1st December, which is at the end of Week 8 of this term. Year 4 Camps at Bannockburn School Camp Next week we have our Year 4s heading to an overnight camp, with 3 groups going each night from Tuesday through till Thursday night. The Year 4s spend either side of this overnight stay exploring the Bannockburn/Cromwell environment. Our YEAR 5s head off to a 4 day camp at Camp Columba in Pukerau the following week (Tuesday 31st October through to Friday 3rd November). REMINDER MONDAY 23rd is Labour Day and on TUESDAY 24th we have school photos here at school, so send your children along looking smart in their navy polo shirts and with tidy hair etc. |
