Next: No. 1 vs. No. 2

First, the Super Bowl.

Next, the "Super Meet."

LSU gymnastics' gritty 197.300-197.075 victory Friday at Alabama set up what is likely to be the first No. 1 vs. No. 2 meet for the Tigers since 2021. No. 1 Oklahoma visits the PMAC to take on No. 2 LSU at 8 p.m. this coming Friday.

If you can't snag what are probably a dwindling number of tickets, the meet will be on ESPN2.

The meet will follow LSU baseball's season opener at 2 p.m. Friday against Purdue Fort Wayne. Speaking of baseball, LSU coach Jay Johnson spoke Friday of his plans for potential two-way player Jake Brown.

For better or worse, the LSU men's basketball team is back in action Saturday, hosting Ole Miss at 7:30 p.m. Attend or watch if you dare.

The softball Tigers have already had their opener, beating Charlotte on Friday night 8-0 on a no-hitter by freshman Jayden Heavener in, obviously, her very first college game. Our Michael Johnson has a photo gallery.

Finally, the LSU women's basketball team is back home Sunday for a big game of its own against Tennessee. The Tigers are 24-1 after winning 71-60 Thursday at Missouri, getting a big offensive lift off the bench from reserve guard Mjracle Sheppard, while Tennessee is coming off a 80-76 home win over UConn. A win could propel No. 6 LSU back into the top five, but first the Tigers have to complete the season sweep of the Lady Volunteers.

Thanks, as ever, for reading and subscribing. Be sure to check out our Super Bowl special section in Sunday's paper.

Enjoy your Super sports weekend, everyone.
