NI tourism output 'likely to drop from £1bn to £400m'

The extent of how the tourism industry in Northern Ireland will suffer because of the coronavirus pandemic was laid bare on Wednesday.

A Stormont committee has heard that the money generated by tourism in Northern Ireland is likely to drop from £1 billion last year to just £400 million in 2020.

Janice Gault of the Northern Ireland Hotels Federation said businesses were expecting £400 million this year, “if we’re lucky”.

Northern Ireland has recorded another day without a single death related to Covid-19. However, four new cases were detected in the previous 24 hours.

A total of 12 people are currently in hospital with Covid-19 but none of them are being treated in intensive care.
