Hello,

For the second part of their investigation into water pollution in Europe, Croatian reporter Jelena Prtoric and Spanish journalist Luisa Izuzquiza travelled to Aragon, Catalonia and Brittany. They explain how nitrates came to be so abundant in our drinking water and are now causing algae blooms on the coast. EU states are required to guarantee their water quality, and EU citizens have a number of options for asserting their rights. But sanctions remain too rare.

Journalists have long had to flee their countries because of official obstacles, persecution and worse. Europe offers them asylum but too often they lack the means to do their job properly from exile, and many end up giving up. Dutch author Toon Vos tells us more.
