The first back-to-back losses and first lost series of the season cost the LSU baseball team the No. 1 spot in the national polls. But just the one spot. LSU (37-10) was still a consensus No. 2 behind Wake Forest after losing two of three at Auburn over the weekend. The Tigers try to get back on the winning track at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday when they host Northwestern State (25-20) at Alex Box Stadium. The game will be streamed via SECNetwork+. The one game LSU did win at Auburn was thanks in large part to yet another great pitching performance Friday from staff ace Paul Skenes. Monday, Skenes was once again named SEC Pitcher of the Week. Our Patrick Magee is back with his NCAA Tournament projections, taking the Tigers' series loss at Auburn into account when factoring in their national seeding. But clearly, LSU is still a lock at this point to be a top eight national seed. There was a lot of unneeded controversy to it, but the LSU women's basketball team is finally headed to the White House on May 26 in honor of last month's NCAA championship. Unless you have been living under a scorer's table you probably know First Lady Jill Biden at first said LSU and runner-up Iowa should be invited, but the White House quickly walked that one back. Wise move. A couple of weeks ago it was LSU gymnast Olivia Dunne, now comes news that women's basketball All-American Angel Reese will be in the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue. Dunne and Reese are believed to be the first college athletes to be included. Men's basketball has added another transfer with local ties. Click here to find out more about him (hey, we've got to make you click. That's why we do this here newsletter). LSU softball is trending in a positive direction after taking the last two games of the series against a ranked Georgia team. The Tigers are now heading into the SEC Tournament with some much-needed momentum. Finally, the LSU track and field teams are holding steady at No. 6 in the national rankings as their season winds down. The SEC Championships come to LSU this Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Well, that's all we've got for now, folks. Hope to see you at the ballpark or the track this week. Thanks for reading, subscribing and just generally being such an upstanding individual. If we had a poll of LSU fans, you'd be No. 1. Well ... at least top 10. Scott Rabalais |
