Grades of Green was thrilled to be selected as one of only 109 out of 72,000 nonprofits in California to receive this distinguished award for our work in educating and empowering the next generation of environmental leaders. |

Grades of Green Students Making an Impact |
Mira Costa Students Make a Splash |
Mira Costa High School’s Grades of Green Club ditched their party hats and donned their swim gear to host a clean up event at the Redondo Beach, CA King Harbor on May 21st. Fifteen club members and friends took to the water on paddle boards and kayaks to remove trash with nets and buckets. They collected over 20 pounds of floating waste, including plastic bags, bottles, cigarette butts, foam pieces, wrappers, cans and more! |
This event was generously supported by Dive N' Surf in Redondo Beach, who donated paddle boards, kayaks, paddles, and life jackets. Other supplies were provided by the non-profits Heal the Bay, who supplied buckets, and Algalita, who supplied nets. |

Inglewood Students Lend a Helping Hand |
Students from Inglewood Unified School District’s GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) program rocked a community clean up at the future site of Inell Woods Park in South Los Angeles on May 22nd as a part of their Community Clean Up LAUNCH toolkit. Partnering with Northrop Grumman and Heal the Bay, these students focused on collecting trash, beautifying the area, and joining forces to prevent trash, plastics, and runoff from polluting our oceans. The students collected 300+ pieces of trash! Way to clean it up, litter busters! |
Students Tour and Explore LA County Sanitation |
| Who knew waste could be so fun? The students from Inglewood Unified School District and Rogers Middle School in Long Beach, CA learned all about waste when they took a field trip to the Los Angeles County Sanitation District in Whittier, CA on May 20th. They explored interactive science experiments, toured a wastewater treatment plant, drove over a closed landfill, got an inside look at the Materials Recovery Facility, and talked to scientists and engineers about environmental careers. Thank you to LACSD for a fascinating, fun (and at times a little stinky) way to learn more about how Los Angeles County’s waste is managed! |

GATE Academy Celebration of Learning |
One hundred 4th-10th grade Inglewood GATE Academy students teamed up with Grades of Green this Spring to learn about the climate crisis, energy consumption, waste management, environmental justice, and how we can all do our part to make our communities cleaner and greener! Student groups took action by utilizing one of our LAUNCH Eco-Toolkits: Community/Beach Clean Up, Adopt-a-Spot and Energy Audit. |
The students came together at a special celebration event on June 4th as they presented their projects (and busted a few moves) and taught the community about simple things that can be done to help take better care of our environment. Their families, teachers, and district representatives in attendance were all inspired to work towards a more sustainable future and to have fun doing it too. We are so impressed and proud of the students' accomplishments. Bravo! |

Toolkit of the Month: Community/Beach Clean Up |
Celebrate Summer by helping to revitalize your community through a beach or community clean up. You can follow the Grades of Green’s Community/Beach Clean Up toolkit for step-by-step instructions on how to lead a clean up and get your neighbors involved. By preventing trash from reaching the ocean and waterways, you are not only helping to protect wildlife from consuming plastic, you are also keeping plastic off your own plate! Plastic can bioaccumulate in fish and other animals and eventually be consumed as microplastics in your meal -- gross! |

Celebrate Eco-Leaders with a Donation |

Help us continue to support our students as they take action to address the climate crisis in communities across the world! |
