NOPD consent decree: Mayor LaToya Cantrell announced today that the city would seek to end a decade-old federal consent decree that governs the New Orleans Police Department. Cantrell's announcement came during a news conference in which several other changes were announced to try and boost NOPD morale and help retain officers. Here's the latest on a developing story.
Jail violence: There’s been more violence reported at the jail in New Orleans. Three people have been stabbed in separate incidents this week, Jillian Kramer reported this morning. Stay tuned for more on this developing story.
Hurricane prediction, the revision: The folks who predict the number of hurricanes each year are still thinking we’ll have an above-normal season. And they remind us that August-October is the busiest time. But they have dialed the number of named storms back a bit from their earlier predictions. Speaking of . . . One intense rookie: There are some jobs where a mean streak might be a good thing. NFL lineman, for instance. But perhaps too much of a good thing for new Saint Trevor Penning? Happiness, ashes, new love: Trina Edwards, who married former Gov. Edwin Edwards when he left federal prison, has been in the news a bit lately. Skirmishes with the former governor’s children.
