What happened?

Here's your quick rundown of what happened:

Thousands of Norton LifeLock customers had their accounts compromised recently, potentially allowing criminal hackers access to customer password managers.
The likely culprit? A credential stuffing attack, rather than a compromise of its systems.
It reportedly took 12 days to detect the breach and another 32 days to tell anyone.

Why does it matter?

Here's why I think this matters to IT.

As Dark Reading points out: Attackers lately have targeted identity and access management systems. One compromise can unlock a veritable treasure trove of data across high-value accounts.
Tips from Naked Security: If you are in the habit of re-using passwords, don’t do it any more! And don’t use related passwords on different sites.
Oh, the irony: "The irony is that the victimized users would have probably been protected if they had used their involved password manager to create strong passwords on their Norton logon account," says Roger Grimes, data-driven defense evangelist at KnowBe4.
