OCTOBER 28, 2020
Everything worth knowing in tech today, October 28, 2020. It's National First Responders Day—thank you for all you do for all of us. ⏰ Today's Big Stories... in 30 Seconds Today We Watched, Read, and Listened to (so you don’t have to): 412 articles, 21 podcasts, 4 press releases, 651 tweets, and 9 YouTube videos 1. FCC Upholds Net Neutrality Repeal So long, net neutrality. The FCC voted to uphold its 2017 repeal of the 2015 net neutrality rules, which would have kept ISPs from treating network traffic differently. Information wants to be free paid for, we guess. 2. YouTube Plans Election Voting Information Hub As we all follow along on Election Day next week here in the US, YouTube may be the place many of us turn to keep track of results. The company will post warnings like "Results may not be final" next to a link to a Google informational hub when you search for anything election-related. 3. Cyberpunk 2077 Gets Delayed (Again) Hotly-anticipated next-gen video game Cyberpunk 2077 (the one with Keanu Reeves in it) has been delayed yet again, this time to December 10th, 2020. We're glad they're polishing it up, but surely hope the developer isn't crunching so hard it hurts its employees (but it's most likely COVID-related). 🦑 Go Deeper Voting machines are easily purchased via eBay, which could put our elections at risk from hackers using the older ones to find vulnerabilities. Sascha Brodsky has a deep dive on how this works. 🎱 By the Numbers Racing to the win Data: Media Play News In case you missed it, video games are big business. It's also gotten a significant boost thanks to our lockdown pandemic. These numbers were just a couple of months after the US lockdown; imagine what they are today. 🤓 Nerd Out "Now THIS is old school home cooking." -Bob Schulties, Senior Editor Cooking aficionados are gonna love this archive of over 10,000 cookbooks from the way back (1529!?) to now. Get your cook on with style, nerds. (Share on Twitter) 💎 You Know You Want It We all scream for ice cream Image: Cold Snap The age of the single-use pod ushered in by Keurig is still upon us. This Cold Snap 2 ice cream maker seems like a pretty great use of the tech (it ain't no Juicero, am I right?), though it's not due out until later in 2021 (boo!). 🚀 Facing the Future Maybe there's hope after all A lot of the time, future predictions tend toward the catastrophic: The world will end, they say, if we don't fix our shit. Now, though, a study has found that a sustainable, poverty-free future is in fact possible (and needed!) 🗞 Extra! Extra! We've got you covered with the best in daily tech news!
