Microsoft working on big evolution in displays

A new Microsoft patent reveals that the company is working on a new technology that can dim and brighten individual pixels instead of the entire display

Microsoft is working on technology that could bring unprecedented levels of control to displays, a patent reveals. Dubbed Pixel Luminesce for Digital Display, it allows you to micromanage every single pixel of your display, adjusting the brightness as needed.

It could be deployed in various scenarios, including potentially major improvements to some of the best gaming monitors.

The patent application, first shared by Windows Report, says the technology would enable selective dimming. It means you can brighten one part of the display while the rest of it remains unaffected, and this would happen dynamically. But possible drawbacks of the system have already been raised ...

Nothing teaser hints at Ear (3) arrival

Ear (2) were warmly received, so we're excited to see what Nothing will bring to the table with their successors

Just weeks after launching the Nothing Phone (2a), Nothing has dropped a teaser for the next iteration of its earbuds.

The video, which landed on Nothing's social media feed on Wednesday, looks more like a nature documentary than a tech tease, but there is some logic behind it. As per Sound Guys: "Nothing uses animals as 'mascots' for its audio products, and the Ear 2's mascot was a beetle. It looks like Ear 3's mascot is a frog. The frog is jumping over the beetle ... get it?"

Nothing has released zero tech specs or images for the incoming buds, but they'll likely retain their characteristic translucent design ...

You can now watch Hulu inside the Disney+ app

Hulu on Disney+ is now official, with full integration of both services for Disney Bundle subscribers

After a limited beta launch last year, Hulu content is now officially available via the Disney+ app for subscribers to both services via the Disney Bundle. That’s why the Disney+ app icon has been given a new Hulu-esque greenish hue that the company calls “Aurora,” replacing the previous blue background.

It means bundle subscribers now have access to Hulu content throughout the Disney+ app, including discovery areas like Continue Watching and recommendations.

“What’s thrilling about the full launch of Hulu on Disney+ is we’re reducing friction for bundle subscribers,” Disney said. “During the beta, the Hulu content was purposefully isolated to the Hulu Hub, but now it will be fully integrated into bundle subscribers’ homepages” ...

Open Roads is a short family drama video game that leaves a big impact

Open Roads — released for PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC — is based around a mother-and-daughter travelog that uncovers long-buried family secrets

Open Roads is out, and a bunch of (mixed) reviews have already dropped.

Games Radar gave it 3.5/5, describing it as a "cozy nostalgic road trip that can't quite get into gear," though it praises its "thoughtful writing and pitch-perfect voice acting." IGN, meanwhile, said it presents a "charming retro world" but "stumbles over its heavier themes, delivering an earnest but ultimately safe road trip mystery." Eurogamer commented that you'll likely "end up with a warm glow from the game" but said it "doesn't go anywhere particularly memorable."

Digital Trends is more positive, lauding Open Roads' "heartfelt story" and "big impact" and praising it for offering a "poignant story about the ways that loss can bring us closer together"...
