Note from the editor

For some, artificial intelligence conjures up visions of a future run by machines, but today it's being used for more consumer-friendly tasks, such as speech recognition and autonomous vehicle operation.

For utilities and grid operators, AI, machine learning and data analytics are rapidly evolving tools that are being used in a variety of ways to improve operations and results.

Today, Utility Dive is launching a four-part series on the role of AI in the power sector. First up: How utilities are using AI to predict and prevent problems, enhance delivery of clean energy, and other improvements.

Subsequent articles will examine how grid operators are using AI to optimize operations and how utilities are using it to improve the customer experience.

We look forward to your questions and input!
