"Everybody can observe nature.....even if you live in a city, there is nature all around. It's creeping up out of the cracks in the pavement, it's living on the bricks of your house, and if you look close enough, you'll find life everywhere." - Dr. Heather Graham
Episode 42: Aired on June 22nd, 2021 Asteroids, Agnostic Biosignatures, & Experimental Rock Opera Featuring Dr. Heather Graham (Research Associate, NASA Goddard Space Flight Center) Hosted by Dr. Graham Lau (Blue Marble Space Institute of Science)
Our guest is Dr. Heather Graham, organic geochemist and research associate from the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. Dr. Graham's research focuses on the scientific development of tools and techniques that can help us identify “agnostic biosignatures” – evidence of living systems that may not share common biochemistry with life on Earth. Dr. Graham is also involved in studying the asteroid samples returned by the Hayabusa 2 mission. In addition to her work as an astrobiologist, she also co-wrote and directed an experimental rock opera about "Hidden Figures" Katherine Johnson, Mary Jackson, and Dorothy Vaughn, more than 2 years before Hollywood. This program is an interactive talk show where our guests answer questions from our host, Dr. Graham Lau, as well as questions submitted via Twitter, Facebook, and SAGANet chat.
