NSTA President-Elect David Crowther joins Zeb Hogan (of the National Geographic series Monster Fish) and nine other scientists in a multi-million dollar USAID grant to study the lower Mekong Delta region over the next 5 years. As part of the initiative, Crowther will visit schools and develop a citizen science program on the environmental sustainability of the region.

A Florida advocacy group says a recently filed bill—SB 436: Religious Expression in Public Schools—could spell trouble for science education in Florida's public schools if passed.
The number of underprepared teachers working in California's public school classrooms has more than doubled in just three years; these shortages remain particularly troubling in special education, science and math, and bilingual education.
