New details are emerging about the elderly, frail evacuees warehoused by one of Louisiana's biggest nursing home chains. Here's the latest: - Nurses who spoke to reporter Andrea Gallo say they're haunted and horrified by what they saw in the shelter crammed with nearly 850 patients. "They were laying on the floor, in feces, and the blowup mattresses were flat," one nurse said. "You'd walk past them and they'd say, 'Help me, help me.' I ended up vomiting twice because the smell was so bad."
- The owner of the nursing home company has a history of egregious violations and wound up in hot water before over a similarly botched evacuation. This story rounds up our coverage of the day we found out about the debacle.
- This morning, crime scene tape surrounded the evacuated warehouse. Here's a dispatch from the scene this morning.
- As we continue to follow this story, we'd like to hear from the people affected. Here's how to get a hold of our reporters.
In other news: - The capital region is slowly powering up again. Here's the latest timeline from utility providers.
- LSU police are asking for help finding three people suspected of trying to kill someone in a campus parking lot last week.
- Another day, more curfew extensions. More on that in this story.
- Hurricane survivors may qualify for comped hotel rooms. Here's what we know about the program.
