☀️ The southern half of Minnesota will feel like deep summer Tuesday. A sultry air mass with highs in the low 90s and dew points in the 70s will push heat index values to near 100 degrees Tuesday afternoon.

🥵 A heat advisory has been issued for the Twin Cities Tuesday between noon and 8 p.m.

😷 An air quality alert continues for northern Minnesota Tuesday due to Canadian wildfire smoke.

⛈️ Thunderstorms will gradually develop further southward through the afternoon Tuesday. The best chances for storms in the Twin Cities arrives Tuesday evening.

Minneapolis officer who fatally shot Amir Locke heads MPD’s new use-of-force training
Police chief Brian O’Hara said Sgt. Mark Hanneman, who’s been with MPD for nearly a decade,  is an “outstanding” trainer committed to bringing positive change to MPD. But Locke’s family and other community members say nothing justifies placing the officer who shot and killed a 22-year-old Black man at the helm of use-of-force training.
 
Wolf pups at Ely center acclimate to people while helping advance scientific research
Cedar and Rowan, the two newest wolf pups at Ely’s International Wolf Center, are stars of science in two research studies before they’re integrated into the center’s wolf pack that’s on display.
 
🚨 Public media funding is at risk 🚨
The White House has proposed a $1.1 billion cut to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, putting vital support for local stations like Minnesota Public Radio at risk. The Senate is expected to vote on public media funding in the coming days.  Please ask your senators to vote NO on the rescissions bill that would kill public media funding. Your voice has never been more important.

🧑🏻‍⚖️ Jury selected in criminal trial of DFL State Sen. Nicole Mitchell. A jury was seated Monday in the criminal trial of a DFL state senator, Nicole Mitchell, who is facing two felony counts of burglary for allegedly breaking into the Detroit Lakes home of her stepmother in April 2024.

🪧 Advocates denounce ICE arrests at Fort Snelling Immigration Court.  Immigrant rights groups are raising concerns about plain-clothes ICE agents detaining people immediately after their court hearings at Fort Snelling. Advocates say the arrests often target individuals whose cases were just dismissed. 

🏛️ Feds refute Eichorn claim of ‘vindictive’ prosecution. Prosecutors are pushing back on claims that they singled out a former Minnesota state senator for federal charges after authorities arrested him in a child solicitation sting..

🐻 Woman seriously injured by bear in northwest Wisconsin. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources said the bear wounded a 69-year-old woman near Comstock in Barron County on Saturday afternoon.

🐶 Minnesota K-9 unit to help with search and recovery efforts after Texas flash flooding. The K-9 unit is from one of two urban search and rescue units in the state. They’re trained to help in the aftermath of structural collapse, and with other search and rescue strategies — including searches over a wide area.

🌎 Community members, activists demand the closure of Northern Iron foundry. On Sunday afternoon, neighbors and environmental activists from the Climate Justice Committee gathered to voice their frustration over ongoing lead emissions and the foundry’s impact on the community’s health and quality of life.

🏀 Napheesa Collier scores 29 and the Lynx beat the Sky 91-78. Napheesa Collier had 29 points, five assists and three steals, Courtney Williams added 18 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and four steals and the Minnesota Lynx beat the Chicago Sky 91-78 on Monday night. 
🎧 In shadow of lawmaker shootings, task force works to address safety outside state Capitol. For two years, a state task force has been working on a plan to improve safety and quality of life in the surrounding neighborhood.

🎧 Medicaid cuts expected to disproportionately affect rural hospitals in Minnesota.
An analysis by health policy research nonprofit KFF found Minnesota stands to lose $23.5 billion in federal Medicaid funding over ten years, an 18 percent decrease.
