GenAI: Google calls for changes to UK copyright law Google published a report this week titled ‘Unlocking the UK’s AI potential’. In it, there are policy recommendations for the development of AI infrastructure, workforce strategy and universal access to the technology. On the issue of copyright, Google advocates for “swift action” on the legal framework for text and data mining (TDM), to “catch up” with the US, Singapore and EU, and specifically to enable TDM for commercial purposes. LinkedIn lets users opt out of sharing data for AI training LinkedIn users (though not those in the EU, EEA, or Switzerland) have noticed a new option in their data privacy settings. Under the section ‘How LinkedIn uses your data’, there’s now a block titled ‘Data for generative AI improvement’, which includes a toggle that is ‘on’ by default, and states, ‘Use my data for training content creation AI models’. LinkedIn published a blog post about updating its terms of service and clarifying aspects of its privacy policy about how it uses user data to develop the products and services of LinkedIn and its affiliates, including genAI. |
