Being able to read is a lifelong gift that shapes a person’s life — whether it’s reading a rich work of fiction, a narrative history of our country, or the instructions for how to build a robot!

For some young children, reading comes easily and with seeming effortlessness; they burrow into books. For others, reading can be difficult and painstaking.

For more than 20 years, Reading Rockets has been supporting the journey of all young readers — and their families, teachers, and schools. A national public media literacy initiative, Reading Rockets offers research-based information and resources on how young kids learn to read, why so many struggle, and how caring adults can help.
