Hyperallergic

When you hear the name Gustav Klimt, you think of glorious portraits of women adorned with gold leaves. But did you know he also painted Impressionistic landscapes? One such rare canvas is heading to auction and can be yours if you have some $45 million in the bank.

If you don't have that kind of cash, you can console yourself with an AI-generated feline version of Klimt's "The Kiss," courtesy the Vienna Tourist Board. The new tourism campaign is good news for cat lovers, but bad news for Austrian graphic designers.

There's much more to read today, including a selection of 20 art shows to see in New York City this month, artists probing the huge industry around the sport of basketball, a new documentary about Little Richard, and the unfortunate story of the museum visitor who tripped and damaged an ancient Chinese owl vessel.

On a personal note, I hope you consider becoming a Hyperallergic member to help us continue doing our work, much of which you won't find elsewhere. We're blessed with a highly informed, engaged community of readers, and we'd love if you join it.
