On the Train to Tampere

Dear basic income advocates,

Busy times ahead: In August, you can meet basic income activists and experts from Europe (including, of course, UBIE members) and around the world at the 18th BIEN Congress in Tampere, Finland. Just a few weeks later, you can join our first ever UBIE Summer School on the Politics of Basic Income in Barcelona, 13-16 September – registration is open now! And then it's time to organise your own local events for the 11th International Basic Income Week.

In October, you can pay a visit to Freiburg, Germany for an international conference on the Euro-Dividend as Sociopolitical Pillars of the EU. And 23-25 November, we'll gather in Budapest to discuss our plans for a new European Citizens' Initiative (ECI).

The Basic Income Earth Network Congress 2018 is coming up soon in Tampere, Finland 24-26 August. With the Finnish experiment coming to an end in December this year, a larger experiment up and running in Ontario, Canada, a minimum income field test in Barcelona, and a feasibility study for pilots in four areas of Scotland, this has been an important year for basic income – plenty issues to discuss!
UBIE will have a strong presence in Tampere. After the Nordic UBI Day on 23 August we’ll be inviting people to join us for a fun evening get-together at a local restaurant. We are also running two workshops at the congress, one on how activists and researchers can work together; another about the UBI Future Lab, an experiential display about the potential of basic income to change people’s lives, and will be participating in the BIEN outreach sessions for affiliates around the world. Several UBIE members, including Hilde Latour, Leire Rincón, Dániel Fehér, Maciej Szlinder, Alexander de Roo, Hermann Aubie, Vivan Storland and Barb Jacobson will be making presentations on their specialist topics and/or facilitating sessions – look out for their names in the programme.
Whether you'll be on your way to the BIEN Congress or not: Between 19-21 August, you can raise a glass to this important event and meet fellow basic income advocates at one of our "Tampere Express" meetups around Europe! From 17-23 September 2018 unconditional basic income supporters around the world celebrate the 11th International Basic Income Week with local events and gatherings. This year's motto: BASIC INCOME - AN INCOME YOU CAN COUNT ON!
You can be part of this global week with your local and regional events to spread the word about basic income. To show how globally relevant basic income is, we collate all events and reports on this website. If you are already planning an event, please log it into our calendar. SAVE THE DATE and get creative: On the 2nd day of Basic Income Week, Tuesday, 18th Sep 2018 there will be a global banner event for everyone to get involved in. More information on this event to follow on www.basicincomeweek.org.
