Dear John,
We are so excited to launch the 2020-2021 season tomorrow and thank you for your continued support of everything the arts offer—a sense of community, the thrill of watching music and dance come alive in front of our eyes, and the feeling of joy we share after a moving performance.
We think you’ll be excited about next season, too, and assure you that the health of our community is our highest priority as we monitor the guidelines about public gatherings.
In the meantime, we offer a few more sneak peeks at next season and the continuation of our Celebrity Series at Home digital concert series. Let us know where you are finding inspiration using #CelebritySeriesAtHome on social media and tag us @celebrityseries.
Celebrity Series at Home brings you new digital content specially curated by our talented and inspiring Neighborhood Arts artists. This week, mariachi singer Veronica Robles performs a Facebook Live concert on Thursday, May 7, at 8 pm ET. Veronica Robles is a cultural icon for Latinos in Boston who founded the first all-female mariachi band in Boston. She is the co-founder and Director of the Veronica Robles Cultural Center, a non-profit organization that supports community action and economic growth in East Boston. Join her Facebook Live this Thursday!
RSVP on FacebookSalsa giant and 17-time Grammy and Latin Grammy Award-winner Rubén Blades will join Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis this holiday season to wish us Feliz Navidad! Watch their performance of "El Cantante" from their 2018 collaborative album, Una Noche Con Rubén Blades, and join us at Berklee Performance Center in December to get into the holiday spirit!
In 2016, playwright and performance artist Taylor Mac took audiences for an incredible journey: a 24-hour marathon performance of his Pulitzer-nominated A 24-Decade History of American Popular Music. Each hour, devoted to one decade dating back to 1776, explores the social history of the United States and its disparate communities through popular songs. Get a taste of all the decades in the abridged version in October at the Emerson Colonial Theatre, and preview the 1980s in Mac's rendition of Patti Smith's "People Have the Power" from the Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
Sir András Schiff returns in March 2021 with a solo recital of Bach, Beethoven, Haydn, and Schubert in Jordan Hall, for his seventh solo recital and eighth appearance on the Series. Listen to his performance of Bach's Overture in the French Style in B minor, which will open his program.
Violinist and composer Shaw Pong Liu performed a Facebook Live concert on Friday night. She performed on the violin and erhu, and performed some of her original songs. Her concert is now available for on-demand viewing at Facebook (no account required).
