Spring's sounding sweeter with 2-for-1 Half Six Fix tickets! With spring around the corner, the time for hunkering down at home is over, and we've got the perfect low-effort, high-reward evening excursion for you. Half Six Fix is a series of London Symphony Orchestra concerts that take a fresh approach to orchestral music. Each one lasts just an hour and includes handy hints about what to listen out for — ideal for those new to the genre. Next up? Ravel's lush, otherworldly Daphnis and Chloé on Wednesday 10 April. Your conductor for the evening is Sir Antonio Pappano, who'll give you a quick primer on the piece before the LSO work their magic to bring it to life. An entirely different mood is conjured up the following week, with Sir Antonio returning on Wednesday 17 April to present Vaughn Williams' Symphony No 5, a bittersweet meditation on hope amid war. Then, on Wednesday 19 June, Gianandrea Noseda takes the baton to conduct Prokofiev’s Symphony No 7. Each Half Six Fix concert takes place at the Barbican, 6.30pm to 7.30pm. That makes it a great alternative to after-work drinks (though you're certainly welcome to enjoy one at the venue before or after the show, or even order a drink from the Barbican's bar to take in with you!) Tickets cost £15-£35, but our readers can get two for the price of one with the code LDN23HSF. Take a mate, date, or even introduce your teen to a whole new musical landscape. Image © Tom Lovatt |
