As a reader of Hyperallergic, you’re probably aware that our community has a lot of opinions. 

During these turbulent times, much in the art scene is contested — and it should be. We are currently facing several crises founded in inequalities of agency and power, provoking public reckonings that can be, at times, messy. However, we must find clarity and purpose in these moments so that we can turn these crises into opportunities to reimagine and remake the art world into a sustainable, equitable, and generous domain. To accomplish this goal, we need nuanced, open, public dialogue. 

With thoughtful Opinion pieces by art makers, curators, organizers, and critics, Hyperallergic has pushed forward our community’s most critical conversations. Just in the last two months, we’ve published essays that have questioned the very definition of conservation in considering the implications of exhibiting defaced monuments, identified the many quantifiable ways in which cultural institutions fail their women employees, and described what it was like to be the only Black curator in a very White museum. 

Ever since our inception over a decade ago, we’ve prided ourselves on amplifying the insights of those who swim against the tide of long-held, popular belief. But we can’t continue to do this work without your help.
