Why 8x8 moved to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure

August 2020
If you ask Vik Verma, we’re living in the golden age of communications. An affable, charismatic speaker, Verma’s relaxed style is fitting for the CEO of 8x8.

But it belies the pressure of an expensive decision he made near the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic: to offer videoconferencing for free around the world. In a wide-ranging interview with me, Verma describes
  • Suddenly serving 20 million users a day
  • The open source, Java-basedjitsi.org that underpins 8x8’s free meetings
  • What Emil Ivov, founder of Jitsi, thinks app developers can no longer assume
  • How working from home is changing Silicon Valley
  • Why 8x8 migrated workloads from AWS to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure
