Where the outback meets the reef

On Western Australia’s Coral Coast, the red dirt of the outback meets the bright blue Indian Ocean, making this an ideal spot for adventures on land and in the water. Though less well known than the Great Barrier Reef, the Ningaloo Reef’s corals and sea life are not only in better condition due to a deep Antarctic current, but as a coastal fringing reef it is much more accessible for snorkelling, diving and swimming with whale sharks. Take a journey through this spectacular region.

Going beyond bears on Vancouver Island

Homalco Wildlife and Cultural Tours have been running grizzly bear tours in Bute Inlet for more than a decade, but this year the Indigenous-owned and operated company introduced a new offering: a People, Water, Land tour aimed at giving guests a deeper experience of Homalco history and culture. They’re part of a growing trend in tourism that is helping Indigenous people preserve their ways of life and fostering connections between communities.

Skiing still reigns supreme in the region, but an influx of new restaurants, microbreweries and spas means les Cantons de l’Est offer plenty to do off the slopes as well.
