Your Wednesday evening update from the Lancashire Post
View email online | | | | | Oct 20, 2021 | | | | | | Good evening, There is no question about it - community Covid infection levels are up - most of us know somebody with the dreaded virus right now and children in particular have been testing positive right, left and centre. But do we need another lockdown or stricter measures? Some think so. The issue at the heart of this is an overstretched NHS. The Government might be resisting calls from a health chief to immediately reimpose some coronavirus restrictions to prevent a winter NHS crisis - but if so they need to come up with a more effective strategy for the organisation to be able to manage as we head into the critical and notoriously pressured months of winter. The NHS Confederation’s warning came as coronavirus deaths in the UK rose to their highest daily level since early March, while cases are at their highest for almost three months. Matthew Taylor, chief executive of the NHS Confederation which represents health bodies, warned “we risk stumbling into a winter crisis” unless measures are introduced now . Do you think he’s right? Have a good evening, Regards, Nicola nicola.adam@jpimedia.co.uk | |
