It was a scene unlike anything seen in the PMAC in a long time. The LSU men's basketball team, coming off a big one-point road upset at then No. 11 South Carolina, coming back from a 15-point early second-half deficit to beat No. 17 Kentucky 75-74 Wednesday night on a last-second putback basket by Tyrell Ward. The victory touched off a wild celebration with fans, including women's basketball star Angel Reese, storming the court. According to one LSU official, nothing like that had happened since 2006. Reese grabbed Ward around the neck during the celebration, but there was so much craziness going on he said he didn't even know it was her. There will be much more to unpack from these back-to-back ranked wins for the Tigers in the days to come. But the question will be how much this win, these two wins, advance a program as Matt McMahon tries to rebuild it in year two. It's important to remember LSU is still just 14-12 overall, but there are definite signs of improvement. Meanwhile, the LSU baseball team is back at The Box for another four-game weekend, with alternating games against Northern Illinois and Stony Brook. Wednesday, coach Jay Johnson named a couple of starting pitchers, starting with who gets the ball Thursday against NIU. Thursday night the women's basketball team is at home against Auburn. It's a revenge spot for the Tigers, who lost 67-62 at Auburn earlier this season. Speaking of losses, Reese has lost out on being able to trademark the name "Bayou Barbie," a potential blow to her endorsement prospects. Finally, the undefeated LSU softball team is back from Florida to host the Tiger Classic at Tiger Park this weekend. That's all for now, folks. Stick with us for all the latest LSU news and info, including how much the school is going to get fined from Wednesday night's PMAC pandemonium. Somehow, I don't think athletic director Scott Woodward is going to mind having to scratch that check too much. Scott Rabalais |
